PERFORMANCE NIGHT organised by Alaa Abu Asad, Merve Kılıçer and Ulufer Çelik. This event brings together different practices to comment on problems of climate, migration, heritage and history, attempting at finding intersections where these themes and topics can meet.
Merve and Ulufer will present their performance ‘Fresh Myths, Different Times’, a piece they have been collaborating on since 2020 consisting of poetry reading with live and sampled sounds, instrument playing accompanied by improvised Illustrations by Carmen Jose.
Alaa Abu Asad will present a performative reading from the ongoing research ‘The dog chased its tail to bite it off’. The research traces the violent, xenophobic speech used to describe the Japanese knotweed and her parallel sister-plants in the language often used to describe human migrants which reveals the current human condition. The work also imagines alternative ways of living with these species via raising questions about mass production ethics, and exploitative forms of economy.
