Doodle Dabble 2025 is a workshop for children to dip their toes in the pond of storytelling. This is an invitation to read and listen to different pools of narratives. Let's make up stories, record and doodle around! The first workshop will take place on the 3rd of May, 10:30-12:00. Happening every first Saturday of the month, it is one of the six repeating workshop series (3 May, 7 June, 5 July, Summer Break for August, 6 September, 4 October, and 1 November), co-programmed with Chaeyoung Kim and Czarina Calinawagan.
As part of Varia's Accessibility Seed research thread, which aims to enage with the idea that public experiences are multiple, Doodle Dabble wants to celebrate children's intuitive ways of storymaking, learning, and residing in multi-lingual situations.
Chaeyoung Kim (KR) is a cultural worker based in Rotterdam with an interest in bringing people together. Trained as a painter, her artistic practice is materialised by the use of illustration, physical props, self-publishing, and hosting. More recently, she has been researching the subjects of humour, intimacy, and community building. Her research is supported by a series of publishing acts, which she conceptualizes as 'intimate publishing'.
Czarina Calinawagan (PH) is an artist based in Rotterdam, working in printmaking, illustration, and augmented reality. She likes to learn through curiosity, shared conversations (often over a meal she cooks, when she can) and explore creative-reflective ways of storytelling. Her ongoing project, Sentimental Archives, maps her father’s postal letters, postcards, and journals from his time as a Filipino seafarer in the 70s and 80s, reflecting on her personal connection to the port's impersonal infrastructures.
